Game Books

by Angel Leigh McCoy

Some of my favorite projects:

Dungeons & Dragons

Magic of Faerun
Written by Sean Reynolds, Duane Maxwell, and Angel Leigh McCoy, Magic of Faerūn is the ideal product for Forgotten Realms and D&D players wanting to add new magic to their campaigns. Readers will learn about the Weave and how spellcasters in the Realms manipulate the Weave's power to help them cast spells. They'll also learn how to create magic-wielding characters, monsters, and items for the Forgotten Realms or any D&D game.

Wizards of the Coast Website
I contributed these to the Wizards of the Coast web site. They were a hoot to write.

White Wolf

Everquest the Roleplaying Game
It's the online Everquest you know and love, stretched neatly onto a frame built from the famous (D&D) D20 system that you also know and love. You can now take the world of Everquest into your living room and share it face-to-face with your friends.

The Everquest books I worked on were challenging because we were all under great pressure, both from ourselves and from the developers at White Wolf, to produce a product that would remain loyal to the feel and concept of the online game, but that would translate easily into a tabletop RPG environment. I like to think we succeeded.

The Hollow Ones
I love this book. I had the best time writing it because it allowed me to set my romantic heart free. This is not your typical angsty goth mush, however. I made a serious attempt to break from some of the goth stereotypes and flesh these black-garbed creatures out into living, breathing, 3-dimensional powerhouses. I tried to open doors to variations on the theme and to provide a more general umbrella of what it means to be a Hollow One. As Penny Dreadful says, "We are the living embodiment of Romance."

If you're tired of people thinking goths are just whiners who stand around posing, then you'll perhaps find some of the ideas I present in this book interesting. I certainly hope so. That was my goal.

I wrote the introductory fiction, the chapter in which Penny educates Mark on the nature of being, and the chapter of character templates. I welcome your comments, so email me if you have any.

Sins of the Blood
I wrote one of the chapters, a chapter on cults. The research took an inordinate amount of time, but I enjoyed it. I now know more about cults than I could ever possibly hope to know. The hard part, of course, in writing the chapter, was to know what to put in and what to weed out. There's so much information out there on cults, so much that you could use for your game. It's fascinating. I hope you enjoy the book.

Changeling: Pooka Kithbook
I put my heart and soul into this book. I pulled on every dark corner of my being in an attempt to make Pooka the dark, dreadful and dangerous creatures that they are. I think I went a little too far because the editors reigned me in and softened some of what I'd done. Not all though. It remains one of my favorite projects. I am so excited to see the new Changeling taking such a dark turn. I applaud it!

Changeling: Satyr Kithbook
Satyrs have always been near and dear to my heart, so when I was offered this book, I felt I had my dream come true. I had a hard time stopping the words on this one. I wanted to keep writing and writing and writing. Unfortunately, my editor kept me a to word limit. I'm most proud of the work I did on this book. And it's my sexiest to boot.

Random Sample
Millennium's End sample - a little something I did a long time ago for the oldy (but goody) Millennium's End.
